Missouri Lake One of the Most Haunted in America After a Tragedy
It looks like an ordinary Missouri lake on the surface. However, stories are beginning to be told about unusual occurrences there after a tragedy that took 2 lives making it now what is considered to be one of the most haunted lakes in America.
If you look at sites like Ranker where people vote up or down haunted places, you'll occasionally see one isolated Missouri lake get mentioned. It's the Upper Big Lake Dam area just north of Charleston, Missouri.
This is the view from one of the highway accesses and it looks like a peaceful Missouri place. But, if you dig deeper, you'll find stories.
Missouri Haunted Houses tells the tale of a fisherman who's nephew was accidentally killed with a shotgun. As they tell it, the fisherman later returned to Upper Big Lake to fish again, but was tragically drowned by what many claim is the ghost of the nephew.
The story doesn't end there. Upper Big Lake near Charleston, Missouri has had way too many reports of drownings there including a Sikeston man years ago. A calm lake like this is not normally what you would associate with drownings, but it happens at Upper Big Lake more than it should.
