Thursday Storm Causes Major Damage to Parks & Rec Properties

Just like residences, streets and buildings, parks and facilities have been adversely affected by the Aug. 12 storm.

Riverview Park sustained major damage and is closed until further notice. Hannibal Parks & Recreation officials and volunteers will be working to clear the destruction but access is dangerous to pedestrians and vehicles.

The Hannibal Aquatic Center will be closed Friday, Aug. 13. Employees will attempt to repair the damage today and are making tentative plans to reopen Saturday, Aug. 14 but the reopening date may change.

The Hannibal Marina sustained extensive damage and access to the set of docks closest to the ramp is unavailable due to the gangway tearing away from its anchor. Officials are seeking to repair the damage as soon as possible.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A severe thunderstorm moved through the area late Thursday afternoon, causing power outages, downed trees and flash flooding.

The Hannibal Board of Public Works issued a statement late last night, saying they were still addressing multiple power outages across the city, with numerous reports of trees and power lines down and broken utility poles.

BPW crews spent the night restoring power to main circuits first, then working toward individual neighborhoods and homes.

As of late last night, BPW reported about 1,100 customers still without power.
Ameren Missouri early this morning reported 28 customers still in the dark in Ralls County around Saverton and 32 without power in Pike County around Bowling Green, Curryville and Eolia.
