Today marks the 106th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. On this day in 1912 Juliette Gordon Low registered the Girl Scouts as an official organization. Five years after they organized the first cookies were sold as a fundraiser by the Mistletoe Troop in Oklahoma.

According to Wikipedia, the Girl Scout Magazine known as "The American Girl" suggested in 1922 that cookie sales be utilized by all Girl Scout troops as a fundraiser and the rest is history.

The days of Girl Scouts knocking at one's door are waning as online sales are now being utilized. If you haven't purchased cookies yet, they are available at

My personal favorite, like most people, is the Thin Mints which in the interest of correcting false advertising should be named "Fat Mints".
