The Last Supermoon of 2022 Happens in August & It’s a Sturgeon
If you appreciate lovely sky sights, you'll need to save a date in August. It will be the last supermoon of 2022 and it will also be a fish. Sort of.
When is the last supermoon of 2022?
Farmer's Almanac says it's the night of Thursday, August 11, 2022. It's a Sturgeon Moon. Why? As Farmer's Almanac describes it, a sturgeon moon derives "from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources."
In all fairness, some prefer to call this supermoon a Corn Moon.
Where and when can I see the Sturgeon/Corn Supermoon?
Earth & Sky says the best time to view the Sturgeon Supermoon in our Central Time Zone will be around 8:36pm the night of August 11, 2022.
The last supermoon on July 13 was visible over us thanks to clear skies. If you recall, it was likely the brightest supermoon of the year.
One other interesting tidbit about the upcoming supermoon on August 11 is it will rise in the vicinity of Jupiter as Earth & Sky shows. With the meteor showers which should still be active during that time, the Sturgeon Supermoon could be a real sky sight.
