The Big Dog is Ready For Sunday’s Gems Home Run Hitting Contest
Proving what I have said all along, the little boy will never leave me when it comes to baseball as I have accepted the opportunity to be a competitor in the Quincy Gems Home Run Hitting Contest. That contest will take place this Sunday night (June 24) at 5:30 p.m. prior to the Gems game with the Lafayette Aviators at 6:30.The other contestants, as of this writing, are co-worker Bill Shuler, Blue Devil Head Basketball Coach Andy Douglas, former Quincy University Softball player Taylor Dralle, Quincy Gems third base Coach Aaron Meyer and Kory Hollensteiner of Quincy.
In looking over the competition, I can see that I am definitely the oldest contestant which in my mind places all the pressure on those young whipper-snappers. I wouldn't want to be them if I win this event. Let me serve them notice that I am taking this seriously.
The batting cage has been my friend recently. So, bring on Jordan Hicks or Aroldis Chapman with their 100 MPH fastballs. All I need do is close my eyes and stick the bat out there.
Seriously, win or lose, the little boy in me will return Sunday night and it doesn't get any better than that.
