SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is alerting motorists that travel may be impacted by freezing rain and sleet today through Sunday.

Driving into work this morning, I notice that most drivers forget how to drive in icy conditions. Here are a few driving tips to remember just before the big winter storm this weekend.

After a snowy and cold weekend, the last week of February is expected to be a cold and perhaps snowy one in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

Much of the country is in the same boat that we are, facing extremely cold temperatures over the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 7 a.m. January 7 through 9 a.m. on January 8. Wind gusts near 30 miles per hour are predicted, and wind chill values as low as -20 are expected in our region.

The first full week of 2015 is expected to be a bitterly cold one in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

Forecasters are sending mixed messages about exactly what will be falling out of the sky this weekend, but they seem to agree that this will be a wintry weekend in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

Missouri’s weather forecast is calling for snow across much of the state this weekend. Winter weather affects driving conditions and traffic patterns. The Missouri State Highway Patrol encourages motorists to plan ahead and drive safely or not at all during inclement weather.
