Memorial Day

It's been almost two years now since Illinoisans and the rest of the country looked at Memorial Day Weekend as an opportunity to take a long weekend trip, but with COVID-19 numbers going the right way for the most part, plans to hit the road are being made.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day.  I suggest you take some time to travel through the Illinois Veteran's Home on North 12th and Locust Streets.

How many days until spring?

In watching, listening or reading the news over this Memorial Day weekend, I would have thought it was November 11 instead of Memorial Day. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service.

As we all take advantage of this three-day weekend, we remember those who gave their all so we can be free.

Remember those 1000 American Flags from the "Field of Honor" set up at John Wood Community College last November? Well, you can have one of those flags placed in your yard on four different Holidays for just $30 as part of the Quincy Exchange Club's "Flags of Honor" program.

Quincy City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2016 in observance of Memorial Day.  City Hall will reopen Tuesday, May 31, 2016 for regular business hours.

It is hard to believe that Independence Day is almost here. Seems like Memorial Day just happened. With the pending holiday approaching, the City of Quincy has announced its holiday schedule.
