Quincy Public Library will celebrate the grand opening of its branch location, Tuesday, January 17 at 5 p.m. at the Q.P.L. kiosk branch located in the café inside County Market, 48th and Broadway, with a ribbon cutting.  The public is invited to attend.

Quincy Public Library will observe new hours, beginning Monday, January 4, 2016. The library will be open to the public Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to  5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Annual United Way of Adams County Restaurant Days promotion is underway. Each day in August, when you dine at a participating restaurant, a percentage of your check will be donated to the United Way.

As the song says "They say lights are brighter on Broadway."  Well, several lights have gone from bright, to dimmer, to off, as six businesses on Broadway have closed their doors between 30th and 38th streets. In the last two years, that eight-block area of Quincy has lost Deb Shops, J.C. Penney, Radio Shack, Long John Silver's, TGI Fridays, and now Steak 'n Shake.

With the announcement of the pending closure of the J.C. Penney store, there has been plenty of speculation about who might take over that space in the Quincy Mall. All kinds of names have been talked about, including Target.

County Market's new Harvest Market convenience store is now open for business at 24th and Locust Streets in Quincy.

Two weeks ago it was announced that someone who purchased a lottery ticket at the County Market store at 24th and Spring in Quincy had yet to claim it, and time was running out. Well, the hour glass is about to see the last of the sand to go through it. If that ticket is not claimed and presented to the Illinois Lottery officials by today, the ticket will be just paper with numbers on it. It goes

Someone in the Quincy area has possession of a Quick Pick Illinois Lottery ticket worth $275,000 and they probably don’t even know it. The ticket was purchased at the County Market at 24th and Spring store in Quincy.

The Illinois Veterans Home Quincy and WGEM-TV announced that the 2014 Fourth of July fireworks celebration will once again be held on the Illinois Veterans Home grounds in 2014.  This is the third time in the past four years that the event has taken place there.

The Sister City Commission announced at their monthly meeting that they will host the Germanfest on Saturday, May 31 in South Park. According to Mecki Kosin, the festival will come back in its original form, with food, drink and music.
