Cooperstown

The year was 1941.  Americans were preoccupied with World War Two going on in Europe.  Nerves were on edge and Americans needed something or someone to do something positive.  That someone turned out to be Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees. Baseball was an escape from the pressures of war and people were following both the war and the game that summer especially because of DiMaggio.

Congratulations goes out to Ken Griffey Junior and Mike Piazza. Both were named last week to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. No player has ever been voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame unanimously, but Griffey Jr. came pretty close.  He was three votes shy of being a unanimous choice. He received 99.3 % of the votes and Piazza garnered 83% of the votes which is nothing to snee

So the man has the all-time hit record for Major League Baseball with 4256 hits yet he is NOT in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.  Pete Rose, the man who said “I'd walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball”, played the game as hard as anyone has ever played it.

Eric Nadel, who has spent the past 35 years as the voice of the Texas Rangers, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Ten of the National Pastime’s iconic voices have been named as the finalists, including St. Louis Cardinal broadcaster, Mike Shannon, for the 2014 Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
