Blizzards

I'm not going to say this is unprecedented because this is weather we're talking about, but it's at least highly unusual for blizzard warnings to be already issued for many Illinois counties and almost all of Iowa for Friday night.

One of the more volatile weather systems in recent memory is about to clobber parts of Illinois and some could see more than a foot of snow and a bomb cyclone is even possible.

It is beginning. The weather pattern that will likely see multiple winter storms dump snow on Missouri is upon us. The National Weather Service has just shared a new probability map and it looks like much of Missouri will have at least 5 inches of snow to deal with by the end of the day on Tuesday.

A meteorologist is predicting a potentially wild weather week for Illinois. He says that over the next 10 days, Illinois could see not just one blizzard, but perhaps even two. His explanation why will make you want to stock up on groceries and gas up your vehicle.

I will admit that weather is hard to predict, so there's a good chance that I'm completely wrong and a dire prediction for Missouri and Illinois for the first week of December is accurate. Let's pray it's not.

It's hard to imagine winter when temperatures are in the 90's if not triple digits. But, you need to know that Farmer's Almanac is already looking ahead to the upcoming winter for 2023/2024 and they predict it will include a surprise blizzard for Illinois.

Missouri has seen some big snow storms, but nothing like the one that buried the state during the largest 1-day snowfall in Show Me State history 12 years ago today.

44 years later, I still remember the winter of 1978 in Missouri. From the beginning of winter in 1977 until spring of 1978, the Show Me State would break records that still remain to this day. Over 54 inches of snow and record cold were just the beginning of the story.
