Super Flu Reported in Missouri, Spreading Rapidly
There are confirmed reports that a nasty super-flu is impacting Missouri and it appears the bug is spreading rapidly based on numbers.
I came across a report of a "super-flu" bug that was being reported in record numbers and I can confirm that Missouri is being hit the hardest. Here's the most recent map of incidents where the super-flu has been confirmed shared by the CDC. Notice that Missouri is listed as very high.
An even more recent update by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services continues to show that super-flu cases in the state are still going up quickly. They show the flu status in the state as "very high" and report a 16% increase in cases and an alarming increase in hospitalizations, too. According to a report today from MSN, this flu bug is especially problematic for the elderly. Here are the Missouri counties with confirmed cases of this flu virus as of this writing. This is double the number of Missouri counties impacted compared to just a few weeks ago.
It's not really surprising when you consider that the holidays are the one time of the year when many people are congested in stores and interacting with others. Family and friends gather which means if one in the group is ill, the flu bug spreads accordingly. Just be aware that this newest flu strain appears to be a nasty one if you are unfortunate enough to end up with it.
