
Illinois Police Say They Have Recovered 243 Stolen Vehicles
The Illinois State Police are hard at work trying to put an end to carjackings and vehicle theft. Their efforts appear to be working as there's new data just shared by the state of Illinois showing a remarkable 243 stolen vehicles have now been recovered.
The Illinois State Police have just shared new information about an ongoing operation to target vehicle theft, carjackings and other violent crimes. Their new press release includes some incredible numbers showing that Illinois is making big progress in this area. Here are the numbers from just October 2025 through December 2025:
- Vehicles recovered – stolen and/or hijacked 243
- Stolen vehicle arrests 23
- Hijacked vehicle arrests 1
- Firearms seized as a result of stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery 5
- Missions targeting stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violent crime 35
- K9 used for stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violence crime 19
- Air Operations targeting stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violent crime 35
- Forensic laboratory assignments related to stolen/hijacked vehicle 1027
How are the Illinois State Police able to find so many stolen vehicles?
The law enforcement agencies were given a $10 million dollar grant plus other additional funds in June of the past two years from the Illinois Secretary of State Illinois Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council.
Sadly, the number of vehicle recovered is still a small percentage of the total number that are stolen annually that number in the tens of thousands in Illinois. In 2023, Illinois had more than 41,000 vehicles stolen according to data from the Secretary of State.
