Big Changes Coming to All Checkouts in Illinois Sam’s Clubs
I know we live in an age of almost constant change, but this one truly surprises me. There is news about big changes that will be coming to all checkouts inside of Illinois Sam's Club locations.
I don't know about you, but I thought the change that Sam's Club made to their logo not that long ago was a big change like this one on the Oswego, Illinois store.
Much bigger changes are coming to all Illinois Sam's Club locations imminently
Supermarket News is reporting that Sam's Club is about to remove all cashiers from checkouts. They plan to remodel all 600 Sam's Club locations and that will include a complete reworking of how you checkout when you're in their stores. There will be no human cashiers or traditional checkouts, but you will need to use their Scan and Go app. It will use artificial intelligence technology to guide you through your checkout experience. Think this is far in the future? Nope. It's already happening in their Grapevine, Texas store.
I am skeptical that it will be possible to move to an entirely AI-driven checkout system with no human guidance or assistance. How many times have you gone through self-checkout and had to wait for a human to correct a machine error? I've certainly lived that many times myself and know that I am not alone.
The future is here, but are we (shoppers) ready for it? We'll find out soon enough.
