Police Warn Illinois Drivers About Dangers of Car Window Decals
You would think that one of the most innocent things in the world would be a decal on a vehicle window, but you'd sadly be very wrong. Illinois drivers are now being warned about the danger of what your windows could be telling others.
The warnings come from Drive Safe Online which is something every Illinois driver should take heed of. Here are specific vehicle decals which can jeopardize your safety and that of your family:
- Blue star military decals - This lets strangers know that you have a military family member that is likely away from home often
- Hobby stickers - If you have a sticker with a motorcycle or ATV on the back of your vehicle, that could flag a thief to the fact that you have a recreational vehicle to steal
- Family stickers - If you have some of the common stick figure representation of family members, you could be revealing information about your children and their hobbies
- School stickers - If you have school or university stickers, that could alert a villain of where you park often which could lead to a trap and/or attack
This is especially a danger due to the increasing number of interstate attacks in Illinois. Police advise that you should look at information on your vehicle the same way you would information in a purse or wallet. If your vehicle reveals personal information that would reveal your identity to someone that could use it against you, better to find a different way to express yourself that doesn't compromise your safety.
