The next Quincy Police Department Citizen Police Academy class will begin on Thursday, February 28th and the registration period to sign up is underway now.

This class, which is 10 weeks in length, will be held on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Most classes are held at Quincy City Hall and there is NO CHARGE to attend!

Participants will, not only learn about all aspects of the Quincy Police Department, but will also have an opportunity to participate in hands on activities.  Some of the class topics include, Street Crimes Unit, D.U.I. practical and mock vehicle stops, gangs, Emergency Response Team, crime scene investigation, and drug enforcement, just to name a few.  There is also an optional range day and class participants can be a part of a ride-along with a Q.P.D. officer.

To be eligible for the course, applicants must live in Quincy, work or go to school in Quincy, or own property in Quincy. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age.  This is a perfect opportunity to learn more about your police department and why police officers do what they do.

I am personally a graduate of the class which I took several years ago. It was very informative and the classes were extremely interesting. Those three hours each Thursday flew by.  I didn’t want it to end. Just as the hours went by, so did the weeks and before you knew it the class was over. You won’t regret you took the Citizen’s Police Academy Class. Remember, class size is limited.
