If you depend on certain sinus medicines to get you through the cold and flu months, you should know there are 4 popular brands that appear to be banned from Missouri store shelves forever.

I saw this notice shared by Pop Crush and there are some things to understand about what is and what isn't happening and why. The alert says that the FDA is in the process of banning Nyquil, Sudafed, Benadryl, Mucinex products that contain Oral Phenylephrine. That means you soon might not be able to find these on Missouri store shelves anywhere.

Here are some important facts regarding this banning of the 4 sinus medicines. The Food and Drug Administration says this is NOT a safety issue. They say studies have shown the products with that ingredient are simply not effective and are only placebos for those that suffer from seasonal sicknesses of this nature.

Here's something else to note. The FDA says this is only a proposal now and NOT an order. Missouri stores are not required to pull these products yet and there's no timetable for when that might happen. It is worth noting that the bulletin from the FDA was issued this November, so this is a current push to get these products gone.

One final thing to know. This proposed ban only affects Oral Phenylephrine and not the nasal spray version. If you want more details, check out the full Food and Drug Administration bulletin.
