It's no secret that thunderstorms take on a life of their own in Illinois, but it's not often that we get to see it happen from above. Now you can thanks to video from a plane passenger showing a huge thunderstorm with clouds blowing up over Illinois.

RezRez captured this video and just shared it this week showing thunderstorm clouds over Illinois that appear to be spiking to between 20,000 and 30,000 feet based on the altitude of the plane.

Based on some other videos shared by this person, it appears this video was captured from a flight that took off from St. Louis, Missouri on its way to Baltimore, Maryland. If you watch closely about halfway through the video, you can see an area of calm in the middle of the storm, but lots of precipitation falling below.

I've seen a few storms from a plane myself, but nothing quite this intense. This was a big Illinois storm.

On the same flight, they captured the moment a Learjet nearly crossed their path (albeit a few hundred feet higher).
