Peanuts in Illinois Just Recalled for Major Life-threatening Risk
There's a new concern about peanuts widely-available in Illinois that are now under an urgent recall after it was learned that they could cause a major life-threatening allergic reaction due to problems during manufacturing.
Peanuts are one of the most common snacks sold in Illinois which is why this recall just issued by the Food and Drug Administration is concerning. They say that 143 cases of peanuts packaged in a plant in Ohio are now under an emergency recall because a review revealed that some of the packages included cashews along with the peanuts.
What peanuts available in Illinois are affected by this recall?
They are the Heinen's Honey-Roasted Peanuts with a label that looks like this one shared by the FDA.
What's the big deal about cashews in with peanuts?
An allergy to cashews can actually be dangerous for those affected and can result in Anaphylaxis, which is life-threatening. It starts with a skin rash, vomiting and can put the allergic person into shock which can result in death and it can happen in just minutes. The fact that these peanuts have cashews not mentioned on the label isn't a problem for most, but if you're allergic, it's dangerous.
