Random 7.99 Charge in Your Missouri Bank Account is Big Trouble
I love technology and hate it at the same time and this is one of the reasons. There is a really good reason why you should check your Missouri bank account now for a random charge of $7.99. If you find it, it could mean big trouble for your money.
I don't frequent TikTok very often, but was alerted by the Daily Dot that I needed to. Sam TikToks Things just shared what happened when she found a seemingly innocent, but random $7.99 charge in her bank account.
Earlier this year, numerous major sites including local credit bureaus had a massive data breach. Information taken in those compromised systems is now being used to silently lift money from bank accounts like Sam's.
The $7.99 charge is apparently coming from a source called DBX Digital. If you see that, your information has been compromised.
What can you do to protect yourself if you find that your Missouri bank account has been entered by someone that isn't you?
First of all, I am not one to give financial advice, so seek an expert before you make any adjustments to your bank. I will share with you what I'd do and you can take it from there.
The first thing I would do is contact my bank directly and preferably in person. I'd have them put a freeze on my account until my information can be changed. Once that's done, I would add 2-step verification before any purchases are allowed.
It's a nasty surprise especially this time of year when everyone's trying to get through the holidays with a few pennies left to their name.
