274 Jobs Lost in Sudden Illinois Packing Plant Layoff
There were hopes that we had seen the worst of recent job loss in Illinois, but sadly that is not the case as the closure of a packing plant in Illinois will result in 274 suddenly being without work soon.
This new bulletin posted to the Illinois Work Net Center site shows a company has notified the state of a facility closure that will mean the layoff of 274 workers. It states that Momence Packing Company located at 334 W North Street in Momence, Illinois will be shutting down no later than August 2, 2025.
The reason given is plant closure. What is interesting is if you look at the Momence Packing Company Google Reviews page, it shows that they are already permanently closed already. I see this closing has also been confirmed by the Daily Journal Kankakee County. They're reporting that the closure did take place immediately and will not wait until August.
There are no confirmations if the workers were offered the opportunity to transfer or provided severance. With 274 workers being laid off in Momence, that adds to the growing total that have already lost their jobs in Illinois this year. There have been more than 455 who have been laid off in Illinois in just the past 90 days.
