I have lived in Missouri most of my life and even I do not get the origin of a sandwich that many call the strangest dish in the state's history.

First, a little backstory about my birth state of Missouri. When you call something weird here, you're setting a very high bar for yourself. Weird is something Missouri excels at, practices often and brags about constantly. Weird in Missouri is spelled with a capital W even if it isn't the first word in a sentence.

Love Food decided to rank the weirdest dish in each state that no one else understands and for Missouri, there is only one winner and there isn't a close second.

This is the St. Paul Sandwich which Love Food describes as "a notoriously cheap Chinese American fusion dish...to make it, a savory egg foo young patty is sandwiched between two slices of white bread along with plenty of dill pickle slices, onions, lettuce, and mayo".

This is one of those Missouri creations that looks disgusting on paper, but really tastes good if it's made correctly. That's why it's the perfect choice for weirdest dish in Missouri. Hands down worth all the effort it requires though.
