Missouri’s Most Stolen Car Has a Serious Security Flaw
The most stolen car in Missouri is a bit of a surprise, but once you realize one big weakness it has, it makes sense why it's taken more often than any other vehicle.
This new study into the most stolen cars in each state was shared recently by Finance Buzz. They looked at the most recent full year of data from the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Their data showed the most stolen car in Missouri over the past 12 months is the Hyundai Elantra.
Why is the Hyundai Elantra Missouri's most often stolen vehicle?
According to Car Buzz, there were about a decades worth of Hyundai Elantra models that had a security flaw involving car engine immobilizers from their 2011 through their 2021 models. They also blamed many on social media who showed "how to" tutorials on how to bypass the ignition with a simple USB cable. I obviously won't share that info here as I don't want to assist the nefarious among us, but such a simple bypass using very inexpensive tools is problematic.
Chevrolet Silverado trucks, Ford F-150's and Honda Accords were among the most stolen and coveted vehicles across America according to the data shared. How can you make sure you don't end up being a vehicle theft victim? You'd be surprised how many people still leave keys in vehicles which is a big no-no. There are now many anti-theft devices that use new technology that is more difficult to bypass that can also be deployed.
