You have likely seen many stories and maps on social media that reveal that Missouri is a top target if World War 3 breaks out, but there are many reasons why that shouldn't worry you even if you live in the areas most likely to be impacted.

This is one of the most-shared graphics I've seen being passed around this week on social media. It's LADbible's map showing the places in the United States where radiation from a nuclear attack would be the biggest problem. Yes, Missouri is right in the middle of the fallout area. You can look at the map they shared a few days ago here.

For the record, this is based on a report that Newsweek shared way back in late 2024. It's not news that Missouri would be a high-priority target for Russia, China or both if a worldwide war were to erupt. With Whiteman Air Force Base, Ft. Leonard Wood and Scott Air Force Base across the river, Missouri would be on the receiving end of multiple nuclear warheads if an enemy decided to try and take us out.

Why isn't this something to worry about?

There are many reasons including the fact that you can't do anything about it. Second, being close to a nuclear attack would likely be the better option since being vaporized in the initial attack would be preferable to dying a slow death from radiation sickness. Perhaps I'm naive, but I still believe that no enemy would be dumb enough to start a nuclear conflict as there would be no winners in the end. There have been many threats of nuclear war from Russia since the Ukrainian war started, but nothing has ever come of it. That's because nuclear weapons are only really effective as a threat and not a real solution. That's why I want you to laugh at these graphics and predictions when you see them shared and not spend one second worrying about it. It's all gonna be fine. I hope.
