The worst months for tornadoes in Missouri has historically been March, April and May. It looks like we may need to add another month to that list as a new map puts Missouri in the danger zone for twisters in June.

Why the sudden concern about tornadoes in Missouri in June?

I saw this new share from Live Storm Chasers on their Facebook page showing how traditional tornado activity has moved eastward revealing that Missouri is now in the heart of the greatest risk area for twisters in June.

June has become a dangerous month for weather in Missouri as many remember the June 1 tornado that impacted Springfield more than a decade and a half ago.

How many tornadoes does Missouri typically experience in June?

A storm shelter site says that while May is normally the most active month for tornadoes with around a 12, June averages a half dozen or so. St. Charles County has some interesting tornado statistics that show Missouri's biggest year for tornadoes was 2006 when there were 102 twisters. We're on pace to break that record this year as there have already been 89 tornadoes in Missouri in 2025 as of the end of May. If the just-shared map for June 2025 is accurate, Missouri may fly past the all-time record for tornadoes before July even gets here.
