Some claim it looks like a giant bird. Many will describe eerie red eyes that seem to stare right through them. Nearly all that have witnessed this creature believe it is a harbinger of doom. That begs the question why there are now Mothman sightings being reported in Missouri? Is tragedy imminent?

The Mothman is known by most people because of the documented sightings in Point Pleasant, West Virginia just prior to the tragic bridge collapse in December of 1967. It's that event that inspired the 2002 movie The Mothman Prophecies.

Now, I've learned of a Missouri connection. There are half a dozen Mothman sightings that have happened in Missouri shared by an article on LinkedIn. Three "giant bird" sightings plus three others that saw a creature "with giant wings" all in the same general vicinity of Independence, Missouri.

The Missouri MUFON group says that Mothman sightings in the state were also prevalent in 2019. Now, there are even those on Pinterest that are talking about the Mothman in Missouri.

The sightings of this creature are not limited to the Kansas City area either. Singular Fortean speaks of "Black, Humanoid Figure with Very Large Wings and Legs" near Cape Girardeau.

All of these reports beg the question what does the Mothman know that we in Missouri don't? Is the state on the precipice of a horrific disaster or are these just coincidental sightings in Missouri from those with wild imaginations?

As a natural-born skeptic who was born and raised in Missouri with a built-in "show me" attitude, I'm not completely on board with the Mothman being a forewarning of doom - yet. But, I will admit that these paranormal reports do make me wonder a bit about the New Madrid Seismic Area and if this creature might just be able to sense an imminent tragic event? Probably not, but it does make you wonder.
