In the heat of the summer, there are few decisions more important than finding a great lake to swim in. If you're looking for the best destination in America for swimming, a new national list says you need not travel outside of Missouri to find it - and it's described as 'bluer than blue'.

This very recent list of the most swimmable lakes in America comes from the legendary publication Reader's Digest. Their criteria included more than just pretty water, but also accessibility and safety. That's a challenge for many Missouri lakes which have been ranked among the most dangerous in the country for decades, but not for this one.

What Missouri lake was just ranked among the top 26 most swimmable in the United States?

Reader's Digest named Table Rock Lake in Missouri as one of the best lakes you can swim in anywhere in America. They Table Rock is a "bluer-than-blue lake...surrounded by a forest thick with dogwood and redbud trees". They are also fascinated by the town of Oasis, Missouri which is still intact underneath the waters that flooded it to create Table Rock Lake decades ago. The fact that many scuba divers search its remains and other shipwrecks just adds to the character. There's a lot to love about Table Rock Lake as it includes 800 miles of shoreline. It's already one of the most desired summer destinations in Missouri and being included on this new national list is likely to make it even more popular.
