5 Missouri Places Top 10 Most Expensive Cities to Heat in Winter
Furnaces in Missouri are getting tested this week as subzero wind chills are dropping a deep freeze on the state. That makes a top 10 ranking where 5 Missouri places appear among the most expensive cities to heat during the winter even more troubling.
I had someone send me a link to a stunning new 2025 ranking from Home Gnome. They list the 10 most expensive cities to heat during the winter months and a staggering 5 Missouri cities made that top 10.
How did they decide what cities were most expensive to heat?
They say their methodology included "average electricity and gas bills (adjusted to average monthly income), average home sizes, and weather conditions, among 11 total metrics". That's a lot of science baked in.
Here are the Missouri places in the top 10:
- Independence - #3
- St. Joseph - #4
- St. Louis - #6
- Springfield - #7
- Kansas City - #10
That's a lot of Missouri cities where you're gonna have to pay an arm and a leg to stay warm. It's interesting to me that Independence, St. Joseph and Kansas City have been hit especially hard this winter with large storms.
My family applied a plastic sealant around our front door during the Fall to prepare for the weather we're experiencing now and that's helped, but the utility bills are still painful. If you live in Missouri, too, you obviously understand that struggle is real.
