Missouri Downtown Strip Named Most Beautiful in America
I think it's a provable fact that Missouri has more than its share of downtowns that maintain the patriotic character from a century ago. That's backed up by a new ranking that says one downtown area in a small Missouri town is the most beautiful in America.
If you walk through downtown Carthage, Missouri, this is just one of the sights you'll see

This is the view of the Jasper County Courthouse which is in the middle of the downtown square in Carthage including Main Street. World Atlas just named this Missouri downtown the most beautiful in America and I would not necessarily disagree with them.
Why is Carthage, Missouri considered one of America's most beautiful downtowns?
Based on the praise heaped on them by World Atlas, it's obvious they were taken by the combination of Route 66 Americana vibes along with the deep history that is preserved in this part of Missouri. I would also add that Carthage has one of the most walkable downtowns in the nation, too. You can easily lose a day just walking from shop to shop while taking in the historical elements, too.
I would like to add that many Missouri downtowns could have walked away with this honor. Hannibal still has a very vital downtown area that has all the Mark Twain history you could want along with quaint shops. Then there are more trendy places like Rocheport or even St. Charles. Missouri does not lack great downtowns. It's one thing our state does exceptionally well.
