
Fatal Infection Risk Found in Popular Missouri & Illinois Celery
If you have recently picked up celery at a Missouri or Illinois Walmart store, you need to be aware of a massive recall due to a dangerous contamination that's been discovered.
This is one of the most common brands of celery that you can find in Missouri and Illinois Walmart stores. It's celery packaged by Duda Farm Fresh Foods, but is branded as Marketside Celery Sticks. The affected celery are the Marketside 4-inch/1.6 oz. washed, ready-to-eat celery sticks with a use-by date of 03/23/2025. It's been confirmed by the FDA that these celery sticks were widely available in Missouri and Illinois Walmarts.
What's the problem with this celery?
In a random sampling conducted by a distributor, contamination by Listeria was discovered. In the very young, very old and/or immunity compromised individuals, Listeria can become a fatal infection. If you find you have this celery in your refrigerator or stored in your freezer, you should not consume them and dispose of them immediately.
What are the symptoms of Listeria?
Listeria symptoms can include "high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea" according to the Food and Drug Administration. As of this writing, there are no confirmed illnesses in Missouri or Illinois connected to this celery recall.
