
Missouri Sees First Hummingbirds of the Season
If you love hummingbirds and you live in Missouri, I've got great news for you. There are confirmed reports that these amazing little birds are arriving in Missouri right now.
I have started seeing anecdotal mentions on social media from some bird groups in Missouri claiming that hummingbirds are being spotted around the state and I've confirmed that's true. Here's the most recent map from Hummingbird Central showing that Missouri has in fact already had confirmed hummingbird reports.
I have counted at least a couple dozen hummingbird reports in Missouri including the Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, Kansas City and St. Louis area. The furthest north I've seen so far was reported in Payson, Illinois right across the river on April 2, 2026.
What food attracts hummingbirds?
There are very simple and inexpensive feeders you can buy that you can fill with one part white sugar and four parts water that will help these little birds flourish according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. While early April is a little early to see hummingbirds in Missouri, this is about the typical time that the migration north reaches our state. The warmer than average temperatures so far in 2026 seem to have accelerated that movement.
