If you have ever thought about trying to get away from society and living off-the-grid, you would be wise to take heed to a Missouri homesteader who warns of a current crisis with hay that's progressively getting worse and he's not alone with his warnings.

One of the most popular YouTube channels that deals with the off-the-grid lifestyle is Off Grid with Doug & Stacy who are based in Missouri. Doug just shared some details of how difficult it's been to find hay and the exorbitant prices many are having to pay for it IF they can find it.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson would agree with that hay assessment as he recently announced an assistance program for farmers with hay issues. It included this statement:

“As drought conditions continue to deteriorate across Missouri, we want to do all we can to help our family farms mitigate the devastating effects of severe drought,” Governor Parson said. “With the current water deficit, we know it will take a lot of rain for our state and its agricultural community to recover from the drought. While our prayers for rain continue, state government will do its part to assist wherever and whenever it can.”

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch mentioned that hay scammers are trying to take advantage of the awful situation, too.

Missouri State Parks has more details on this drought assistance which includes issues with water shortages.

That's another issue that Doug mentioned showing how low his neighbor's pond is compared to previous years.

Recent rain has barely helped as the National Weather Service now shows much of northeast and central Missouri under extreme drought conditions with much crop loss expected.

If you don't already, Doug & Stacy are a highly-recommended (by me) follow on YouTube for interesting perspectives on living where civilization isn't in Missouri.
