Missouri Emergency Officials Sound Flash Flood Alert

Missouri emergency management officials are sounding the alarm about the risk of flash flooding as heavy rain is possible in many parts of the state on Friday.

The NOAA Weather Prediction Center is showing a flash flooding/heavy rain risk for Missouri on Friday, too. Notice the red hatched area is the region they feel is most at risk.

I asked the weather expert in my life aka my wife who's a meteorologist and she was honestly surprised as the forecasts she's seen don't seem to indicate the type of heavy rain event that would cause this type of flash flooding risk, but she certainly didn't dismiss the idea as not possible. It's just not been a part of the forecasts she's been keeping track of for Missouri, but as we all know, weather in this state changes frequently.

The best plan would be to make sure you're weather aware especially if you live or plan to be in central or northwestern Missouri on Friday. Having multiple ways to get weather warnings if/when they're issued by the National Weather Service is always a good idea.
