See the Massive Sinkhole That Swallowed a Missouri Driveway
The one thing in life you can normally count on is the Earth beneath your feet. That suddenly became a huge issue for a Missouri man who realized that a massive sinkhole had swallowed most of his driveway and there's video to prove it.
This is what Darel Oberbeck Jr. saw in front of his Everton, Missouri home recently
According to the WHAS11 report, this huge sinkhole appeared the morning of November 10, 2025. It began as just a 6 foot wide hole, but had more than tripled that size by November 15, 2025. Oh, and it's still growing and no one seems to know exactly what caused it to appear in the first place.
According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the state has accounted for more than 16,000 sinkholes. The largest sinkhole in Missouri takes up 700 acres in western Boone County. They say these huge holes in Missouri are "formed by dissolution of carbonate bedrock or collapse of underlying caves". Some sinkholes are rather shallow like the one that just opened in Mr. Oberbeck's driveway or can be hundreds of feet deep. The tricky part is knowing when the collapse is complete. Looking at the ground in the Everton, Missouri sinkhole, it might have a while to go before the sinkhole is done expanding. Just never know when the Missouri ground under your feet suddenly won't be there.
