One of the most beloved movie places in Missouri is being forced to close after their rent is tripled. It means that everyone will have to say goodbye to a drive-in theater that is closing in just a matter of days.

This is the Twin Drive-In movie theater which has been a staple in the Independence, Missouri area for decades.

B & B Theaters owns this drive in, but a different company owns the land. This is what they just shared this week on their Facebook page.

KMBC reports that the rent the land owner was charging B & B has gone up 350% just since January of this year.

How many drive-in theaters are still operating in Missouri?

According to Missouri Life, the total number of active drive-in theaters in the state was 10, but that number was prior to the announcement of the Twin Drive-In closing. The cost for these drive-in theaters to convert over to new digital movies is prohibitive which is why most remaining theaters have been relegated to either showing old analog movies or closing permanently. When you factor in skyrocketing land rent costs, it's sadly no surprise that this drive in has chosen to close.

The last double-feature will be shown at the Twin Drive-in on November 17.
