55 Million Reasons to Turn Your Lights Off in Missouri Tonight

As a dad, I am in favor of turning off lights. Have you seen our electric bill lately? I've just learned today that there are even more reasons why everyone in Missouri should turn their lights off tonight and for the next few days. There are 55,000,000 reasons.

I saw this interesting fact and graphic shared today by Nick Bender of KMBC in Kansas City on his Facebook/Meta page. As soon as I saw that it was about turning off lights, the dad part of me knew I had to share it, too.

55 million birds migrating over Missouri over the next week during the peak of migrating season. If you think this is absurd, you should know that even the Gateway Arch is honoring the lights out for birds campaign. It really does make a difference.

It's really not too much to ask to at the very least dim outside lighting to avoid causing confusion for migrating birds. Your electric bill will benefit too says the dad part of me that refuses to shut up.
