The Best Hot Dog in Missouri? It’s a Guy Named Steve

This is so much a Missouri thing that it could not possibly be a more Missouri thing if it tried. What's the best hot dog in Missouri? It can be summed up in one name: Steve.

I am not normally a fan of internet "best of" lists, but I'll make an exception in this case. Cheapism has just unleashed their best hot dog in each state list for 2026 and their choice for Missouri is...well, it's so very Missouri and specifically St. Louis.

They chose Steve's Hot Dogs located at 3145 South Grand Boulevard in St. Louis which makes sense since Steve's has declared itself the official hot dog of St. Louis. Here's the kicker, though. Steve is not wrong.

Why is Steve's the best hot dog in Missouri?

The national ranking says "Between the smoked dogs, the rock-and-roll personality, and the signature St. Louis Dog, this is a very easy Missouri pick." Rock and roll personality sounds about right and it's very much a St. Louis-specific place and I mean that as a compliment.

It's difficult to argue with this selection although Missouri does have some other very decent hot dog options. Woofie’s Hot Dogs is a favorite for many and in the Kansas City area some prefer Morty's. Fritz's Railroad Restaurant also offers a decent hot dog, too. Can't really go wrong with Steve's at #1, though. Missouri knows its hot dogs and Steve is the guy to talk to if you want one.
