I find myself often cheering for the underdog which is why I was pleased to see a national ranking say that the best grocery store in Missouri isn't a big chain and many gourmets seem to agree, too.

I want to be clear that this isn't my list, but one that was just shared by Love Food. They have just shared what they believe is the best grocery store in each state and their choice for Missouri is an interesting one. They say that they made this selection from "genuine user reviews, awards and accolades, and the first-hand experience of our team". For Missouri, they chose Cosentino's Market which is only found in and around the Kansas City area. I'm no math expert, but I think there may be as many as 31 or 32 Cosentino's Market stores scattered around KC. Love Food praised their "a cheese counter, bakery, wine and spirits department, fresh produce, meat, seafood, and a range of fine and specialty foods".

I have nothing against the big chain grocery stores and will confess that I shop several of them every week. I have a family and kids to feed so cost is a big factor for us. I do appreciate grocery stores like Cosetino's Market that aren't afraid to stock some very niche products and focus on one area of the country. The fact that they're only found in the Kansas City area makes them very much a Missouri original and that should be honored.
