10 Missouri Backroads That Are Perfect for a Summer Drive

There are few better ways to relax in Missouri than to find a road that's off-the-beaten path. There are many that come highly recommended when you just want to get behind the wheel and leave the worries of life in the rearview mirror.

I have driven many of these routes in my lifetime with my favorite being number one on the list. I wish I had a nickel for every time I drove the highway next to the Mississippi River just to get some piece of mind. I've included that one and several others that reveal some of the most beautiful parts of Missouri.

I like this variety of Missouri backroads because some are short enough to drive after work during the week while others are meant more for a weekend getaway. My only word of caution is that you're dealing with just two-lane remote highways in most cases which makes them a slightly more dangerous route of travel compared to the busier four-lane interstates. Still, I'd take any of these routes over the hustle and bustle of regular Missouri highways and byways anytime. Sometimes your mind just needs a break and these scenic Missouri drives are the perfect remedy for that situation.
