I happen to live in one of the areas in Missouri where there are significant Amish communities so it's very common to encounter the horse and buggies on the road. What I did not realize is that Missouri now has one of the fastest-growing Amish populations in America.

I came upon this new Amish data on Wikipedia of all places. Yes, I will admit that I feel a little strange looking for information about the Amish with technology, but that's a conversation for a different day. Check out how fast the Amish population has grown in Missouri over the years.

1992 - 3,745

2000 - 5,040

2010 - 9,475

2020 - 14,520

2025 - 18,465

That translates into a 27% growth of Amish people in Missouri just in the past 5 years alone which is among the fastest-growing rates in the United States. Overall, Missouri is currently 7th in America for total Amish population trailing only Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, New York and Michigan.

There are many misconceptions of the Amish life in Missouri. While their culture does shy away from technology, many Amish do use computers, but they're more like fancy word processors. There are even valid Amish websites, but they're run by third-party vendors so the Amish people aren't violating their faith and convictions. While you won't see the Amish in Missouri watching television, they don't despise technology. My understanding is they try to avoid the introduction of worldly ideas that would corrupt what they believe.

It's good to be educated about the Amish way of life and their beliefs if you live in Missouri as their communities are growing bigger by the day.
