Videos Show Meteor Spotted by Hundreds in Illinois

One of the most reported meteors so far in 2026 was spotted by hundreds in Illinois this week and there are multiple videos to prove it.

According to a new report on the American Meteor Society website, a bright fireball was reported by more than 123 residents in Illinois and 4 other states the night of Tuesday, February 10, 2026 around 10:32pm. Here are some of the backyard videos that captured the moment this big space rock flew over the Land of Lincoln.

This meteor appeared to be so close to Earth that it made me wonder if there might be meteorite fragments found, but so far I haven't seen any confirmed reports that happened. We're obviously still early in 2026 as of this writing, but this is easily the most viewed space rock I've seen that passed over Illinois in the new year.
