This popular burger chain used to be everywhere which is why I was mystified to learn that they just closed down every single location in Kansas City, Missouri. There is a silver lining to this dark burger cloud, though.

What are your top 5 national burger chains? I would guess that the one that just closed all of their Kansas City locations would be on a lot of lists. I came across a new article just shared by The Sun which made a claim I needed to confirm for myself and sadly I've learned it's true. Every single Jack in the Box that used to be in Kansas City, Missouri is now closed. If you look at their Missouri locations, you'll see Kansas City listed, but there are zero open restaurants there.

Why did Jack in the Box shut down all their KC places?

The Sun article quotes the Jack in the Box CEO saying that he believes the chain has gotten away from their core principles and that's what led to the decision to shut down all of their Kansas City restaurants.

But, wait, there is some good news...

Jack in the Box has announced a new Kansas City location at 740 NW Shoal Creek Parkway is opening in September of 2025. We'll find out in the Fall if Jack in the Box will have staying power in Kansas City Chiefs land where Patrick Mahomes and his Whataburger restaurants are a growing force.
