If you frequently cook with raw ground beef, you need to know about an urgent public health alert that was just issued to Missouri for a contamination that can lead to severe and even life-threatening sickness.

The good news is the USDA says there's no recall being issued for this ground beef that is contaminated with E.coli because there is no product still left for sale. The really bad news for Missouri and other states where it's been available is that all of the ground beef is already in homes where it could cause serious sickness.

As the CDC says, E.coli can be mild or severe with symptoms like vomiting, bloody diarrhea and cramping. In some cases, it can be life-threatening for the very young or old and those with compromised immune systems.

Here are the labels provided by the USDA of the ground beef that was available and purchased in Missouri. The "best by" dates are April 22, 2024.

Another bit of good news is it does not appear there have been any illnesses yet connected to this bad ground beef.

Again, there is no recall of this contaminated ground beef as it's no longer available in stores, but the public health alert for Missouri is even more urgent since it's already in the freezers of families who plan to consume it. Check the official USDA bulletin for more details and updates on this ground beef danger.
