New Quincy Illinois Baseball Team Now Has Name
When the Quincy Gems left it cut into a city that eschews change. The Gems were “the way we’ve always done it”. –Our de-facto Quincy motto. When new owners wanted to return summer baseball to Quincy everyone got excited. Except this new team wouldn’t be called the Gems.
The new team announced today that they would be called the Doggy Paddlers……!!!
There were over 1000 submissions for the new name. The team says that “Doggy Paddlers” reflects the community’s input and is “a blend of spirit and fun. Most certainly it is kid friendly. It will also be pet friendly, as the name lends itself to events, giveaways and contests that incorporate and are geared toward fans furry family members.

The new team mascots name is “Barkley the Paddler”, who will be making appearances at games and team events.
The new season begins Wednesday May 28th at QU Stadium
Interestingly the logo for the “Doggy Paddlers” has subtly worked in a capital "Q" with the paddle as the tail, and also has incorporated the “Gem” representing the “Gem City”, but also applying a wink to the longstanding team that preceded them at QU stadium. A nice touch to tie the new to the traditional that Quincy embraces.
