M-I-S-S-O-U-R-I Kids Ready to Spell Success at National Bee
There is a tradition for the men in our family. We win classroom spelling bees in 5th grade. I did, and both my sons did too. Decent enough to best out classmates. Then everything usually came crashing down spectacularly in the full school spelling bee.
Top spellers visualizing the word
We had our moment of triumph. But nothing like the moment seven Missouri youths are about to experience. To be fair, the kids that reach a national level of spelling bees work at it. It’s not just a reflection of a casual habit of reading. These kids practice and research on word origins and root words. They want to know the context the word can be used in. It’s not just knowing the word, it’s understanding how and where the word came to be.
Gaylord Resort & Convention Center
The 100th annual Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee takes May 27-29 in National Harbor, Maryland. 243 students from across the USA and territories will spell their way to glory and 7 of those contestants will be from all over the Show-me State. 11 year olds: Khushbu Dahal and Beckett Griffin. 12 year olds: Ananya Aggarwal, William Henley and Kunal Patel. And 14 year olds: Natalie Linthicum and Scott Tingle.

Tingle and Patel are the grizzled spelling veterans of the group as they have made it this far last year.
