If you're looking for a new outdoor adventure, several Missouri hiking trails have earned a spot on lists of the best trails to explore during the summer months.

Best Missouri Hiking Trails for Summer Adventures

Now, I'll be honest, when it comes to hiking, I'm not exactly that person. I enjoy taking walks and checking out new places, but I usually prefer sidewalks over dirt trails and dense woods. However, if you love spending time in nature, Missouri has some incredible trails that are definitely worth exploring.

Devil's Icebox Trail Offers a Cool Escape

One trail that consistently gets rave reviews is the Devil's Icebox Trail. I'll admit, anything called "The Devil's Icebox" immediately makes me a little suspicious, but according to Only In Your State, it's one of the most unique hiking experiences in Missouri.

Located in Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, the Devil's Icebox Trail features a short boardwalk path that leads down into a cave area. The stairs can be challenging for some visitors, but once you reach the bottom, you'll quickly understand how the trail got its name. The cave formations naturally keep temperatures much cooler, making it a refreshing escape from Missouri's summer heat.

Waterfalls Await at Hickory Canyons Trail

Another must-visit trail is the Hickory Canyons Trail near Ste. Genevieve. This scenic hike is especially popular after rainfall, when visitors can enjoy beautiful waterfalls cascading through the canyon landscape.

If you're looking for something a little easier, the Shut-Ins Trail at Sam A. Baker State Park is a fantastic option. Known for being one of the more beginner-friendly trails in Missouri, it still delivers some incredible views. It's a great choice for families, dog owners, and even people like me who aren't hardcore hikers but might want to give it a try.
