When you are as successful as the Kansas City Chiefs are people will want to know how you do it. Usually, hyper successful individuals and teams have some standards that go beyond what others would find normal.

Normal doesn’t set you apart. Winning does. You win, you’re previous abnormal will become the norm as others try to copy you to replicate your success.

The Chiefs have some team rules that players have to adhere to. They do. The results are hard to argue with.

People magazine listed eight team rules that Chiefs players have to follow. Some are basic and understandable. Others may seem odd, but upon deeper consideration are logical.

Every team has a curfew for game nights. The Chiefs don’t allow alcohol consumption the night before games. As a player or staff member you cannot be tardy. Uniforms will be worn uniformly and NO BLACK CLEATS. Two others pertain to WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends). They cannot ride on the team plane and cannot stay in the hotel room with players on the road.

At first glance those last two may seem a bit severe, but not having them could lead to players being distracted by family drama (per the hotel rooms) and unnecessary conflicts between WAGs on flights.

Keeping the team – and ONLY the team – together makes it easier to keep everyone focused.

You can’t argue with success. The Chiefs are on a mission to achieve what no NFL team has ever accomplished; win three Super Bowls in a row. Should they pull that off, other teams in many sports and professions will attempt to adopt similar rules.
