DMV Kiosks Installed in Select Grocery Stores in Illinois
A new way of renewing your driver's license has come to Illinois.
It just became a lot easier if you want to renew your driver's license or state ID. Illinois State of Secretary placed DMV kiosks throughout the state have placed kiosks in a few grocery stores in Illinois. The closest one to the Tri-States is Springfield.
To renew your license or state ID you'll just need your renewal letter to scan the barcode or enter your license or state ID number and renewal pin. As of now, the majority of these kiosks are in Chicago, Springfield, and Peoria.
These fast-lane DMV kiosks are a pilot program and will be studied for a year to see how many uses each machine gets. According to CBS News,
This is a big step in our ongoing effort to modernize the office and enable Illinoisans to obtain more services online and remotely without having to visit a DMV.
Could we see this come to our area? Maybe. No one loves going to the DMV and many have gone to renewing online, which is what I do and is simple. It doesn't say either if these kiosks will be put in just highly populated areas to help with the flow of people heading to the DMV.
Not sure if I trust myself to bring everything to the store, without losing anything. The DMV will always be around, you still need to go there to take your actual driving test.
