If you're curious if there will be any relief from the heat in Illinois, I have good news and bad news. Yes, there is relief that will arrive in Illinois soon, but it's not all good news.

I saw MBGC Weather on YouTube share an interesting update late last night. He was looking at what the GFS model was showing in regards to temperatures for the next couple of weeks. The bad news is Illinois still has heat to deal with for a couple of days, but by the end of the week, this map shows that the state will begin to see lower than average temperatures arrive. This is for Friday, August 22, 2025.

It gets even better toward the end of the weekend as Sunday, August 24, 2025 will be chilly compared to a normal last part of August in Illinois.

The pink areas show that by Tuesday, August 26, 2025, parts of Illinois could be anywhere from 12 to 15 degrees BELOW normal August temperatures.

The final bit of good news is for Thursday, August 28, 2025 with a definite cooldown for all of Illinois.

Now, for the bad news...

The GFS model is showing the cooldown won't last as Labor Day Monday, September 1, 2025 shows above average temperatures are likely to return to Illinois. Boo.

I would highly encourage you to watch his explanation of how Illinois is in for a bit of a temperature roller coaster for the next few weeks before we get the real Fall cooldown. At least you'll have more than a week of relief from the blazing hot weather.
