Some people just don't seem to understand how much serious trouble you can get into by messing with other people's mail. One Chicago, Illinois man learned this the hard way as he was busted as the serial mail thief that law enforcement was after and will now face 4 years in prison for his crimes.

The United States Postal Inspection Service just shared a bulletin about the serial mail thief they were trying to identify. They said in a statement that Andrew Trotter, 45, of Chicago, pled guilty to one felony county of burglary and has been sentenced to 4 years in prison with one additional year of supervision after his release. He was identified for being the culprit behind multiple mail theft incidents on the northwest side of Chicago in early 2025. When he was arrested, the US Postal Inspector said that he had on his person "two counterfeit postal keys, suspected methamphetamine, several stolen debit and credit cards, and one stolen passport".

“This sentencing is a statement that mail theft will not be tolerated, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” said Ruth M. Mendonça, inspector in charge, Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. “The Postal Inspection Service will continue to partner with other law enforcement agencies to collectively pursue criminals who victimize postal customers.”
