Illinois’ Safest City Had a Twister with a Rainbow Go Through It
If you're looking for the safest place in Illinois, a new city was just crowned. You should know that it is a safe location, but it did have a huge twister with a rainbow go through it not that long ago.
One of the more prestigious safest cities list each year comes from security company Safewise. Their list of the safest places in Illinois for 2025 includes a new number one that has a unique weather history.
- Campton Hills
- Pingree Grove
- Hawthorn Woods
- Brookfield
- Gilberts
- Western Springs
- Homer Glen
- La Salle
- Hampshire
- Hinsdale
So what about Campton Hills, Illinois and that big tornado with a rainbow?
It was last July in 2024 when live TV coverage of weather captured a large wedge tornado going through Campton Hills, Illinois. As the camera followed the twister moving through that normally quiet Illinois area, a beautiful rainbow appeared to the left of it.
Safewise was right to name Campton Hills as the safest city in Illinois. The crime rate is so low it's barely noticeable. The northwestern part of the Chicagoland area is one of the nicest places to live in America. Fortunately for Campton Hills, the FBI crime data does not track tornadoes (or rainbows).
